The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation has ordered security forces to use armored vehicles, rubber bullets and live rounds during this evening's operations to disperse the red-shirt demonstration in Ratchaprasong area. Chaos broke out since around 7.30 P.M. when sound of explosions were heard at Saladaeng intersection and later reports surfaced that Major General Katthiya Sawasdiphol or Seh Daeng, a key leader of red-shirts' armed units has been shot. May 13, 2010 11.50 Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) announced the plan to surround anti-government red-shirt protesters and use armored vehicles, rubber and live bullets to persuade them to leave Ratchaprasong intersection at 6 P.M. Public transports and utilities will also be suspended. 14.15 BTS announced services at high risk areas (Silom, Chidlom, Siam and Ratdamri) will be suspended at 6 P.M. onwards. MRT also announced that services to Silom and Lumpini stations will be suspended at 6 P.M. when the CRES launches an operation to disperse the protesters. 17.45 Roads near Ratchaprasong intersection closed incl Ratthewee, Petchburi (near express way exit), Wireless Road, Rama I Road and Ratchaprarob Road. 18.39 CRES invoked Emergency Decree in 15 additional provinces, oversee by Region 2 & 3 Army chiefs 18.45 Ratchaprason area turned into no-fly zone after unidentified aircraft spotted above the red-shirt protest area. CRES feared air-terror strike imminent. 19.15 Major mobile phone operators cooperated with authorities, agree to cut signal around Ratchaprasong area. 19.36 Grenade-like sounds were heard at Saladaeng intersection, reporters believe they were M-79. Members of media and public took refuge in nearby buildings on Silom. Sounds of gunfire and firecrackers continued to be heard. Movements of armored vehicles seen moving from 11th Infantry to Ratchaprasong Intersection. 19.55 Major General Katthiya Sawasdhipol has reportedly been shot in the head. He was admitted to the ICU at Hua Chiew Hospital. 20.15 Several news agencies reported Seh Daeng had died from the serious head injury. 20.20 TAN Network reported at Hua Chiew denied Seh Daeng is dead. She confirmed he was wheeled out of the ICU 5 minutes ago and seemed to be in a serious condition. 20.40 Gunshots around Saladaeng have quiet down about half an hour ago but the number of those injured still cannot be determined. 20.50 Military checkpoints set up around Huachiew Hospital while police officers inside hospital conduct strict check for weapons among red-shirts. 21.00 CRES announcement: ban on entrance to Petchburi, Phayathai, Wireless, Rama IV, Ratchaprarop, violation will entail 2 yr jail term 21.20 Red-shirts on Ratchaprasong stage announced Seh Daeng is in a safe condition. 21.45 Reports have surfaced that several key leaders of the red-shirt movement have resigned after Major General Katthiya Sawasdiphol, or Seh Daeng, was shot by a sniper this evening. They include Weera Musikapong, Wisa Kanthap and Paijit Aksornnarong. Meanwhile, several key members, such as Weng Tojirakarn, Jaran Dittapichai and Korkaew Pikulthong are considering leaving the movement. - Almost no movement from Lumpini Park where another group of red-shirt protesters are gathering except earlier reports of street lamps being smashed and CCTV cameras destroyed by the red-shirt protesters. 23.00 Another skirmish broke out between red-shirt leaders and security officers when protesters walked from their rally site around Lumpinee Park to a checkpoint on Rama IV Road close to Sathorn Road. Gunshots rang out and when things quiet down, 25-year-old Chartchai Chalao was found lying on the ground and believed to be dead but it was later revealed he is still alive. He was shot in the eye and is in critical condition. At least four other people were injured. May 14, 2010 00.30 Seh Daeng's family relocates him to Vajira Hospital. 05.50 Doctors at Vajira operate to remove bullet from Seh Daeng's head but he remains unconscious. 07.15 Reports indicate that red shirt leaders are in serious discussions as to what actions they want to take next. Many of the red shirt group's leaders are suggesting that negotiations be held with the government to prevent further bloodshed. However, Jatuporn Phrompan and Arisman Phongruengrong are against the idea and insist they fight to the end. The leaders are expected to come to a decision by 10 A.M. this morning. 08.45 Reports indicate that red shirt taxis have taken over the Wittiyu (Wireless) Intersection as red shirt supporters close down the outbound lane of the Thai-Belgium Bridge on Rama 4 Road. As a result, traffic is very slow going. There are also reports of moderate clashes between protesters and military personnel at the U Chu Liang building on Rama IV. No injuries reported. 10.28 The red-shirt group has hijacked 3 military vehicles close to Lumpinee Park and Sathon Road. Sand was poured into the gas tank while protesters battered the car with sticks and stones. 11.45 The red-shirt group held a press conference, turning down any attempts at reconciling with the government. The group asked the prime minister how many bodies he wants to see and claimed the military is behind the shooting of Army Specialist Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol or Seh Daeng. 12.15 TPBS has reported tear gas being fired by soldiers into the group of red-shirt protesters who are rallying on Rama IV Road, close to Lumpinee Park and the Thai-Belgium Bridge. There are 5,000 soldiers in this area and gunshots have been ringing out periodically 12.27 Red-shirts set fire to a National Police Office's bus on Wireless Road. Protesters also fired homemade bombs at security agencies and soldiers. 13.05 Red-shirt protesters burned tyres in front of a gas station on Rama IV (closer to Lumipini boxing ring). 14.09 A Canadian journalist working for France 24 and photographer of Matichon Thai daily newspaper have reportedly been shot. BTS announced that services to all stations will be closed from 4 P.M. onwards. 15.31 Kluaynam Thai 1 Hospital confirms 1 death from clash between soldiers and red-shirts in Bon Gai. He's been identified as Intan Petwong, 33 yrs old. 15.33 Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra has proposed a 4-point peace plan. He's calling for the lifting of the State of Emergency, for soldiers to return to their barracks, allow for peace talks to take place with the protesters and for reconciliation to occur between all parties involved in the current political conflict. 16.19 Education Ministry orders schools located near Ratchaprasong area to postpone opening of new school term to June 1. 16.45 Three M79 have been launched at the Sala Daeng BTS station on Rama IV Road. Initial reports indicate that at least two injuries have been confirmed. Victims transported to nearby hospitals. 16.58 The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) has banned traffic from Rama IV Road from the Samyan intersection to the Ngamduplee intersection. Violators will face a 2-year jail term and/or a fine of Bt40,000. 19.21 A smoke bomb was launched into the backstage area of the Ratchprasong stage, causing guards to pull red shirt leaders Jatuporn Phrompan and Kwanchai Praipana off the stage immediately. The green smoke bomb injured at least 10 people. Meanwhile, reports indicate that three more deaths have been reported at the Police Hospital, bringing today's death toll to four. 20.19 More M79 attacks took place, one was aimed at an army bunker in Bon Kai area and four more exploded in Pathunam area where a clash is taking place between security officers and anti-government red-shirt protesters. 20.59 The Civil Court has dismissed the red-shirts' petition for the court to prohibit the government from using force to disperse the anti-government protesters. The court explained that the matter is under the jurisdiction of the administrative branch of the country. 22.30 The Erawan Emergency Center says seven deaths resulted from today's clashes between red shirt protesters and military personnel. 101 people were injured and were treated at 11 different hospitals. The center reveals that of the injured victims, nine are still in ICU. |
