Deputy PM on Security Presides Over Disaster-Dealing Drill
UPDATE : 30 July 2010
The Deputy PM on national security presided over the opening of an annual exercise designed to handle a national crisis.

Suthep Thaugsuban, deputy PM on national security, presided over the annual drill intended to mitigate national crises or natural disaster, at the Thai Army Club on Vibhavadi Road.

At the drill, equipment to deal with natural disasters and crises were put on display.

This annual exercise is the result of a decision made by the Cabinet in 2005. The cabinet wished to see strategies and measures in place, to counter national crises and natural disasters.

Suthep said the drill is a precaution in case of a natural disaster, referring to the tsunami that hit southern Thailand in 2004.

He stated that he has instructed the National Security Council, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and other relevant agencies to compile a plan to handle national crises, to be presented to the government in the future.
